Big Blue Couture

I’ve loved UK basketball for as long as I can remember. Being a CATS fan wasn’t really an option in my family. My great-grandmother, Rachel Tye, played for one of the first UK women’s basketball teams in 1906, and she made sure that our family bled blue. Following in her footsteps, my grandfather was a die-hard Cat fan. A dog lover as well, he named the Basset Hound he had when I was born Sam Bowie after the UK star. I remember wearing my UK cheerleader outfit as a young girl and going to my first basketball game with him. Rupp Arena was SO big! It was a beautiful sea of blue, and I’m pretty sure I thought every basketball player was named Sam Bowie because of my Basset Hound friend.

I was lucky to attend the UK vs. Ole Miss game last Tuesday in that same sea of blue, happily clapping along with the fight song and yelling at the officials when they made a call that was anything but helpful to my Cats. The inspiration for this post, however, isn’t the game itself, but the Big Blue fashion. I’ve scoured the web for blue couture and come up with a few ideas that might come in handy the next time you’re in the mood for something a little more exciting than a hoodie and jeans for a BBN game.
